Applications Now Open: Comprehensive Cancer Control Mentorship Program

The George Washington University (GW) Cancer Center is pleased to announce that applications are now open for a new cohort of the Comprehensive Cancer Control Mentorship Program.

The 18-month Mentorship Program is designed to help mentees develop public health communication competencies and apply evidence through a mentored project experience, a series of online presentations and relationships with your mentor and peers.

With guidance from a mentor, mentees will plan, implement and evaluate a communication project that aligns with their state/tribe/territory comprehensive cancer control plan objective(s) related to cancer screening. Mentors are seasoned professionals with experience in health communication campaigns and/or evidence-based cancer screening interventions. Five mentees will be selected through a competitive application process.

Who Should Apply?

Would you like intensive help with planning and implementing an evidence-based communications strategy for cancer screening? Would you like free training to build your capacity as a public health professional? We will be pairing seasoned experts with early- to mid-career cancer control professionals. This is a great opportunity for your program or coalition to rigorously move forward on planned cancer screening activities that have a communications component with expert guidance. What’s Included in the Program?

• Travel funding for participation in 2-day kick-off meeting in Washington, D.C.
• Required online coursework and readings
• Monthly virtual meetings with mentorship cohort
• Online Ask the Expert discussion forums led by additional experts in the field, tailored to cohort needs
• $500 for mentee to plan, implement and evaluate an evidence-based communication campaign
• Travel funding for optional site visit between mentor and mentee
• Potential funding to support presentation or project results at a national public health conference
