Description: Biostatistics is the science of applying statistical reasoning and modeling to the solution of problems from a wide range of topics in biological and health sciences. It plays a critical and central role in multidisciplinary clinical, basic science, and translational research, and encompasses all phases of a research project. The newly formed Biostatistics Core Team at UH John A. Burns School of Medicine is available to collaborate with investigators on grants and to provide research design and statistical analysis support to clinical researchers.

Educational Objectives:

At the end of this educational activity, participants will be able to:

  1. Describe the importance of biostatistical and research design principles through discussion of several case studies.

  2. Discuss tools and potential pitfalls that may impact a clinical researcher’s data analysis.

  3. Identify resources for research design and statistical analysis support.
