HMSA Request for Proposals

This RFP is looking for innovative proposals that promote health and encourage Native Hawaiians to make sustainable healthy choices and is are particularly interested in school-based projects, community-based projects, and health care setting approaches. Funding is approximately $100,000 for up to five years.

To qualify, the project needs to:

  • Demonstrate the potential to diminish health disparities between Native Hawaiians and other race/ethnicities in Hawai’i.
  • All projects need to collect baseline data and evaluate program success.
  • Proposed interventions should be well planned, designed to meet local needs, culturally appropriate, and likely to sustain. Interventions that are grounded in research or recommended by the CDC are encouraged.

Priority consideration will be given to projects that:

  • Include realistic plans for long-term sustainability.
  • Leverage HMSA Foundation funds to acquire or match grants from outside Hawaii.
  • Build on current obesity prevention or reduction efforts.
  • Are designed to initiate new efforts or test models that address this important health area.
  • Establish or build on community coalitions, partnerships or collaborative efforts.
