RMATRIXThe John A. Burns School of Medicine is one of five U.S. academic institutions funded through the National Institutes of Health's Research Centers in Minority Institutions. That's the "R." MATRIX stands for Multidisciplinary And Translational Research Infrastructure Expansion. Translational research rapidly transfers research findings to treatment settings to benefit patients. Dr. Jerris Hedges, Dean of the John A. Burns School of Medicine and lead investigator for the grant, said it builds upon years of successful research at the medical school by scientists in its Department of Native Hawaiian Health and numerous other departments and centers. In 2014 the University of Hawaii at Manoa announced a five-year, $15.4 million continuation of the RMATRIX funding from National Institutes of Health (NIH), National Institute on Minority Health and Health Disparities (NIMHD) to foster clinical and translational health disparities research by providing an integrated research infrastructure that is connected with various University units, the RCMI Translational Research Network (RTRN) sites, and the grass-roots communities on Oahu. More details about RMATRIX II... Please remember to acknowledge the RMATRIX award in any publications (abstracts, manuscripts, presentations) resulting from grant-supported research.
